I Thessalonians 5:1-6 consists of:
Remember: The book of Daniel is the skeleton for the End Times Chronology and parts of I Thessalonians provides some of the flesh.
One of the big myths around today, that I'm sure you've heard, is that Christ will come like a "thief in the night".
There are Christian books and movies with this title.
They go something like this...
...The pastor is teaching on the End Times...the Rapture specifically. He is saying something like:
"You've got to be ready church. Jesus Christ could come any time. He may come next month...he may come next week...he may come tomorrow...he may even come right - BANG..."
...lightning strikes and all the Christians are gone. There are a few people left distraught to realize that they missed the Rapture...they weren't ready.
Now, read through I Thessalonians 5:1-6 again and pay attention to the "they" and "you" pronouns.
"They" will be taken by surprise and will not escape.
But "you" (Christians) will not be overtaken by the Day of the Lord like a thief, because you are to be sober and alert.
That means you are to know and understand the End Times Chronology. When you do, it will not overtake you like a thief. If it does that means you are in darkness and not in the light.
So, why does everyone enjoy talking about Jesus coming like a "thief in the night"? Do you see how out of context that idea is? These are the verses that this idea comes from. This is it!
Please don't be a part of the vast majority who believes and teaches that Christ is coming like a thief in the night. When you do, it's like you are putting yourself in the same category as "they" above.
Don't do it! Don't go over to the dark side! Sorry, a little Star Wars humor there...
Jesus will come like a thief in the night...to those in darkness! I hope that isn't you...
Pay attention to the words of I Thessalonians 5...they are important!
When we understand what the book of I Thessalonians offers concerning the End Times we get a little more meat on the chronological skeleton of Daniel. We also bring down another one of man's theories.
