As with the Tribulation and the Rapture, the Millennium has various
viewpoints surrounding it also. The theories which man creates can get confusing, but God wrote His Word in a way that we can understand it. When we
just read the Word and take its simplest and most natural meaning it seems
clear that one view stands out from the rest.
The 1000 year period during which Christ shall reign with His saints on the earth after the Rapture and Parousia and before our eternal state begins.
“Millennium” is a Latin word meaning one thousand years. While the word itself does not occur in Scripture, the time frame of one thousand years occurs six times in the key passage for millennialism...
The one thousand year period is used repeatedly here in Revelation 20 to denote the period during which Christ shall reign with His saints on earth after the first resurrection.
In verses 5 and 6, we see the term “first resurrection”. This resurrection is synonymous with the Rapture. It is the only time that dead believers are raised.
Note also that this first resurrection implies another resurrection...if there wasn't a second one then this one wouldn't be labeled "first". I think this is why John changes the usage of this term here in Revelation 20.
He describes the first resurrection and tells us that we are blessed if we are a part of it, but the second resurrection seen in the first half of verse 5, “The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were completed…” leads to eternal death in the lake of fire (verses 6,14).
Thus, while the dead believers are raised at the Rapture, the dead non-Christians will stay in the grave until after the 1000 years are completed. These are the two resurrections alluded to in Revelation 20.
As one studies the Scriptures it is hard to imagine that such debate arises surrounding the Millennium. When Scripture is read and the basic, simple meaning is taken, it is difficult to come away with any other view than Pre-Millennialism.
A significant amount of twisting or deleting Scripture must be done in order to substantiate the rival views of the premillennial position, namely the amillennial and postmillennial views.
At the links below I'll go through some of the basic info on each millennial position, and you'll be able to get more info and charts for each one in my book. I have labeled my view “Biblical Pre-Millennialism”, since I think it is the plainest and simplest understanding of the Word.
I expose you to each popular view in case you are curious about them and my comments on them. This way they are in one spot for you to think through them if you like.
