That sounds like heresy doesn't it? The most popular theory on the end times Rapture says that it will be a secret event. Live right because Jesus might come back today! This is using fear to push people into holy living...no, no, no. My living, vibrant relationship with Christ puts a hunger in me for holiness!
Guess what...that theory was hatched in the 19th century! Hmm. Did those in the rest of church history not know about this? [For an understanding of how this theory came about you can read The Rapture Plot by Dave MacPherson.]
Growing up I repeatedly heard this saying. Oh, have we missed the forest for the trees when it comes to this subject. People have so fixated on the trees that they miss the enormously large and obvious presence of the forest.
As we go through these Scriptures, I think it will jump out at you, and you’ll wonder what all the bickering between differing positions on this issue is all about.
I found its timing and place in the Bible chronology to be so clear that, when I studied it, I just sat back in amazement. Then I realized, that largely, it has been man’s theories that have clouded the clear teaching of the Word on this issue.
I have found that the church at large has ignored the end times portions of the Bible as an overreaction to the unbiblical date-setters and predictions for Christ’s return. This is a disobedient attitude to His return. I'm glad you are not of that attitude.
As we approach this biblically clear, yet humanly confounded, subject I want you to realize that "rapture" is not a biblical term...
It is the gathering together of the living and dead Christians to meet Christ in the mid-heaven in preparation to come with Christ at His Parousia (Second Coming). It is the Christian’s “blessed hope”.
These views of the Rapture all key around the tribulation:
As you familiarize yourself with these three positions it is important that you understand the difference between tribulation and wrath. Two of these positions depend on these to be identical. You can probably see the folly already.
One of these views is the biblical position and is VERY CLEAR in the Word. So first it must be identified there.
Have you ever thought about that? Where is the our gathering to Christ in the Bible? Most people say it is in Revelation 19. Read that chapter and you will find that is just isn't there.
However, if you back up a few chapters you will find it...Revelation 14.
Once you have located it in the Scriptures then you can see how it relates to all the end times events around it and with the help of some other passages you can put it on the End Times Chronology.
The next point is a very big clue as to where it fits on the chronology and it also brings down another very lofty theory of man...
I Thessalonians 2:1-4 weighs in heavily here. Read it and let the Word form your beliefs concerning the timing of this all important end times event. Prepare for a very large myth to be busted and for a huge theory of man to come crumbling down.
Remember, I'm not attacking anyone, but I am attacking false teachings concerning the End Times. I freely admit again, that I had several of my own theories come crumbling down after my 2 year study of the End Times in God's Word.
You may be wondering if it is important to know the timing of this event in the End Times Chronology...that's a good question. Christ wants us to know and discern the End Times Chronology. In fact He tells us again and again to watch, be alert, be ready and know the timing of the coming end times events. We are to be watchmen for the end of days events He has made clear for us!
There are also implications for us and/or our future generations if this is before, after or during the Tribulation. I think you would prepare differently for each scenario.
Another question I had was, what will the it look like, how does it happen? If you are curious too, find out for yourself.
You can click on these end times Scriptures to read them and my comments on my End Times Prophecy page...
Do you want a prophecy update? Get the basic end times timeline down first as an accurate foundation. God talked about these events in great detail in His Word...He wants us to know and understand them. Base your understanding of the Rapture on God's Word and not man's theories.
Which one do you think is right? Why do you believe in this one?
